Activities to do in Glenfinnan

Glenfinnan has a variety of traditional activities available in the village. 

There are two main places to eat out in the village, the Glenfinnan House Hotel and the Princess House.  Both are just minutes away from the accommodation, and have a varied selection of bar and al a carte menus to choose from.    Traditional live music and themed food nights and demonstrations are often arranged by the hotels and are definitely not to be missed!

Enjoy a boat trip down Loch Shiel with Loch Sheil Cruises where you are guaranteed to see lots of wildlife including Golden Eagals, Red Deer, Ducks and Diving Birds.  Advance booking is advisable.

The National Trust for Scotland is an excellent centre in Glenfinnan.  It has got a museum dedicated to Bonnie Prince Charlie, a gift shop and beautiful modern café where you can get a cappuccino, and home made cakes – not to mention ice cream and iced lollies in the summer! 

Glenfinnan Monument is situated in the heart of Glenfinnan.    A small token fee is required to climb the monument and after you have climbed the narrow, windy stairs to the top, you will be able to see right across Loch Shiel.

Glenfinnan Candles is a small traditional shop which sells the most important thing in Glenfinnan…. The ‘Anti-Midge’ candle!  The shop also sells a range of other candles including made to order customised candles. 

There is a train station in Glenfinnan which can be used to catch the Steam Train to Mallaig.  This is an extremely popular route leaving Fort William and taking the hours train journey to the small fishing village, Malliag.

Long walks and nature trails can be taken near the National Trust of Scotland.  They allow you to wander up a rough path and see lots of different types of wildlife.
